Holly Martins trolls the streets of Vienna forlornly, feebly seeking to swat his way through Old World conspiracies, horribly compromised personal loyalties and unfathomable evil, doomed never to do anything sensible because he doesn't have a sensible name. Any resemblance he bears to Chris Lehmann, who edits Newsday's Sunday op-ed section in the barren suburban wilds of Melville, NY, bereft of any tragic personal or world-historical intrigue, is of course laughably coincidental. In all events, please do understand that he is not a woman of the female persuasion.
