Lotte Absence, daughter of a Japanese chewing gum magnate, married the son of an American diplomatic attaché based in Tokyo during the "boom" years of the 1980s, before eventually moving to America. After stints working in SF's Multimedia Gulch and NYC's Silicon Alley, she has retreated to a small, Northeastern U.S. city that will probably be "discovered" by Money magazine as "livable" and by Rolling Stone as "The Next Scene Town" by the turn of the millennium.
