Apachest
The Apache are a collection of tribes living in what is now the southwestern
United States. The Apache were a nomadic people who hunted buffalo for
subsistence, but now live a sedentary existence in the Four Corners region.
There are approximately 12,000 Apache currently living in the United States.
Notable Apache historical figures include Mangas Coloradas as well as
Cochise
and Geronimo. The
Apache Nation's
inclusion on this calendar does not indicate an endorsement of either
The Apache Software Foundation
or Apache Digital Corporation, both
of which should return their domain names to the Native Americans. Nor does it indicate
approval of the various wars around the world in which the Apache attack
helicopter has played a significant role.
