Jimi
In addition to supplying our calendar's obligatory Pop Culture Figure,
Jimi Hendrix
(1942-1970) produced such classic records as Band of Gypsies and
Axis-Bold as Love, which retain their fresh scent through clouds of
toxic Baby Boomer nostalgia. His unorthodox guitar style extended vain hopes
to left-handers everywhere. His humping-the-guitar routine alone makes him
an American legend even if his choking-on-his-own-vomit routine helps explain
the origin of the term "half a moron."
