Bachtober
Although not fully appreciated in his own age,
Johan Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), is now
recognized as the greatest composer of the baroque period. His more than 1,000
musical works include popular and moving pieces such as the Saint Matthew
Passion oratorio, the Goldberg Variations for keyboard, and at least one
movement (Air on the G-String) which sounds delightfully risque. Bach also
sired some 19 children, among them several talented musicians such as Carl
Philipp Emmanuel Bach and Johan Christian Bach.
