9. This line is from The Godfather, the 1972 film directed by Francis Ford Coppola. In the scene from which this
line is taken, the Corleone family and the Tattaglia family are at war. Sonny Corleone (James Caan), the de facto
godfather, receives a package. In the package is Luca Brasi's bullet-proof vest, wrapped around a dead fish. "What
the hell is this," asks Sonny. Clemenza (Richard S. Castellano) responds, "It's a Sicilian message. It means Luca Brasi sleeps
with the fishes." What has always surprised me about this scene is why Sonny, a Sicilian and the son of the
Godfather, does not know what the message means.
