CLIENT: Mauro for Governor

EXPLANATION: In Texas, Democratic Land Commissioner Gary Mauro got his ass stomped in his bid to unseat insanely popular incumbent Governor George W. Bush. Ads like "Character Counts" were designed to tar the reputation of Bush, terrifying voters with the prospect of Clinton-style character implosion in their own backyards.

RESULTS: Ineffective ... as of yet. Due to Mauro's embarrassingly bereft campaign coffers, the ad ran nowhere in the state. But Quayle 2000, Team Alexander, and Forbes for President are currently engaged in a bidding war for it.
