"a fish, a barrel, and a smoking gun"
for 24 December 1997. Updated every WEEKDAY.

In 1998 ...

At least one (but almost surely more than one) article will appear in a high-circulation print magazine touting the dazzlingly original work of a loosely allied group of brainy young iconoclasts out to remake the publishing/media/entertainment world in their own image. Some of those profiled may by quite young - or perhaps have gone to graduate school instead of journalism school or film school! Some will like something called "punk rock" and/or be "deeply immersed" in "the world of underground zines and the Web." Most, if not all, of those profiled will grumble, carp, complain, and otherwise publicly express dissatisfaction with the article; in private, they will snap up dozens of copies and have long, emotional phone conversations with loving parents and old flames.
